Starring in the "Terminator" movie franchise offers plenty of perks, but there seem to be plenty of downsides as well.

"Terminator 3" actor Nick Stahl, who was reported missing by his estranged wife earlier this week, appears to be the latest star of the franchise to run into trouble, leaving some to wonder about a "Terminator curse."

After all, Stahl, 32, took over the role of young John Connor in "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" from Edward Furlong, whose own career was sidetracked by drugs after 1991's "Terminator 2: Judgment Day."

Drugs may also be to blame for Stahl's disappearance. Stahl's wife, Rose Murphy, reported him missing earlier this week, saying the last time she saw him was May 9. She added that he had been frequenting Los Angeles' Skid Row area recently.

The couple separated in January and Murphy filed court papers the following month, asking that Stahl's visitations with their daughter, Marlo, 2, be limited. She also asked for proof that he hadn't used drugs within 24 hours before seeing her, TMZ reported.

Thomas Dekker played John Connor in the television series spinoff "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles." After the show wrapped in 2009, Dekker was arrested on suspicion of DUI after allegedly hitting a bicyclist. Now 23, he has bounced back with a new series, CW's "The Secret Circle," and a band, Zero Times Zero.

Following his starring role in "Terminator 2," Edward Furlong was in and out of rehab. His wife, Rachael Kneeland, then filed for divorce in July 2009 and received a restraining order against Furlong, whom she claimed "grabbed me, bruised me, pushed me, made threats of more violence, left messages saying he would hire people to come and beat me with chains and bats," according to court records obtained by TMZ.

Christian Bale

While filming 2009's "Terminator Salvation," star Christian Bale went on a four-minute f-word-laced tirade aimed at director of photography Shane Hurlbut. The recording of the tape was later leaked to the press and seemed to point to an anger problem for the English actor, who had been arrested just a few days before the tirade for allegedly assaulting his mother and sister. No charges were filed in the assault case, and Bale later apologized to Hurlbut and others for his behavior on the set.

The original Terminator, Arnold Schwarzenegger had long been dogged by rumors of groping women on movie sets and in other settings over three decades. While running for governor of California, he apologized "to those people I have offended." But the real bombshell came out after he left office, when the world learned that Schwarzenegger had fathered a child with his housekeeper Mildred Baena while married to wife Maria Shriver.

Actress Linda Hamilton not only starred as Sarah Connor in the first two "Terminator" films but began a romance with director James Cameron, who was then married to "Hurt Locker" director Kathryn Bigelow. "Work and women go hand in hand for Jimbo, and I should know," Hamilton told the UK's Daily Mail last year. The pair had a daughter together before Cameron left Hamilton for Suzy Amis, whom he fell in love with on the set of "Titanic."
